Went to Mozart’s

Today after sleeping off and on until 5pm (not feeling it) I went to Mozart’s Coffee House over on Lake Austin to suck up the coffee and free WiFi while I worked on the materials for my interview this week for a ‘world-building’ position on the design team for one of our games at work. There is a lot of competition. Almost everyone in my department applied for the position, although it is not clear how many received the go ahead for the interview process. I am told not everyone who submitted a resume will be interviewed, but luckily I made it to the next round. Somehow I seem to have enough talent to usually make it past the weedout rounds. Such was the case at UT, although I obviously did not get the job there that I had hoped for. I imagine one out of every three to four people who applied will be interviewed. This is just a guess. Hopefully, it will not result in any bad blood. The important thing is to stay confident and work my ass off to show them I have the drive and capability to do the job. I will have to channel the rainmaker. Hopefully, I will have some good news later this week or next week.

  1. Well, how’d it go budro?
Good vibes, bad vibes, or just “eh?”

  2. Interview is this afternoon.

  3. just noticed the nice way you asked me to not link your images (only one in the whole life of my little blog.. I don’t think it takes all this bandwidth…).
you’ve been really polite, it’s great to discover that there is such nice people on the internet, thank you

  4. I note sarcasm.

I should not have to ask anyone not to link to my images. I can’t even be expected to track down where they’re being used as that would require checking the server logs. Therefore, the onus is on you to ask for permission, and failing to do so puts your little blog at risk since I have ultimate control over what content appears on my website.

That being said, there is a lesson in every experience.

  5. I’ve always thought that free circulation of information (even linking images) on the internet is something that can make web a better place for users that really believe in it (like bloggers). On condition that there is no economical advantage in doing that, of course. I would have never known your blog if I hadn’t search for images to link for mine.
Now, as you said, I’ve learned a lesson: not all the people have the same idea about that.

    p.s.
I understand your policy about bandwidth. Only a little matter of style: you could use a more agreeable image. that’s all.

  6. I’m all for the free circulation of information.

I just ask that you save a copy of the image onto your webserver so that if your website gets a lot of traffic it won’t eat into my bandwidth. Feel free to use any images you find here. You will find that I often use images from other websites. I simply save a copy and upload them to my server.

I agree that I used an image with a high likelihood of not being agreeable due to its implied act of oral sex between two men. At some point, I will likely change that image, but I merely wanted to use something that would provoke a reaction and the removal of image links. It was not meant as a purely punitive action but I was rather peeved to see my bandwidth jump a bit in the past month.
