Up too early for no reason

Dorky admission: I’m a member of Toastmasters International. It’s basically a club to improve your public speaking skills.

We meet every Monday at 6:45am at IHOP for about an hour and a half where everyone has to speak in front of the group in some fashion during each meeting, either as a prepared speaker, an evaluator, or extemporaneously. Since I was out of town I didn’t make it in for the last week’s meeting. That’s what caused this whole thing.

In Toastmasters, regular attendance is strongly encouraged by each member having an expected role of some sort on a regular basis. So, I woke up around 6am today on a holiday because the weekly schedule indicated we still had a meeting to attend. But, when I got there it was clear the meeting had been cancelled since the banquet room was empty and not prepared. Only one person from the group was there and he was there for the same reason I was… because he missed the previous week’s meeting. So, we sat and had coffee since he came all the way from south Austin and didn’t have to go to work today. It was funny because we both got up before dawn on a holiday, got dressed up (the club rules encourage business attire), and showed up for no reason. I should have emailed someone to make sure the schedule was correct. Now I’m up and operating on about four hours of sleep.
