Time for homeschooling? It’s not just for Christians anymore.

Some screwed up stuff on the state of our so-called ‘educational system’. Public education is run, by and large, by professional sadists and authoritarian types. Not so fast, vouchers aren’t the solution to this problem which is one present outside the world of politics. That will just relegate the poor further to these joyless bureaucrats while the well-to-do get a tax funded coupon to the elite academy of their choosing. And, in many cases, private schools are more sadistic and authoritarian, religious or militaristic academies for example. What needs to be rooted out is this authoritarian attitude that is common when dealing with children. It results either in creating obedient drones or nihilistic martyrs. Treat children with respect and consideration, and act with their interests in mind.

That’s not our business.” School officialdom routinely hides behind the excuse that a particular fashion is disruptive. The truth is that it is disruptive to the delicate sensibilities of these people who’s favorite activities include hot glue and sponge-painting. I remember back in middle school Bart Simpson t-shirts were outlawed for the very same reason. It’s ridiculous what these people get away with demanding. I suppose it’s beneficial in that it creates legions of young adults who have seen the abuse of authority.

    1. Well, as Buffy sez, “It’s not just for scary religious people anymore.”

I couldn’t possibly begin to count the ways our lives have changed for the better since we pulled my 10 YO out of school 2 years ago. But I’ll probably have something up on th’ blog about it soon, in a sidebar.

    2. “obedient drones or nihilistic
      martyrs,” indeed … well said.
      I’ve certainly encountered
my share of both among the products of the US educational system (public and private).
