The mushrooms have landed

My front yard has exploded with mushrooms. I counted thirty-four of them just now. It’s neat to see them rise up, get bigger, then flatten out like an opened umbrella.

Phillip and I had an IM conversation about mushrooms which devolved.

[13:48:29] me: i just counted 34 mushrooms
[13:48:43] him: have you ever done shrooms?
[13:48:46] me: no
[13:48:50] me: im about to
[13:48:56] him: those aren’t the right ones
[13:48:59] him: I know how to find them
[13:49:06] him: one day when I was bored at work
[13:49:09] me: i bet theyll make me hallucinate before i die
[13:49:10] him: I read all about them
[13:49:27] him: mushrooms are cool
[13:49:30] me: yeah
[13:49:34] him: so delicious
[13:49:36] me: heterotrophic
[13:49:41] me: sessile organisms
[13:49:44] him: and they grow so fast
[13:49:48] me: yea
[13:49:55] me: weird
[13:50:11] him: there’s this other plant that grows really fast
[13:50:16] me: bamboo does
[13:50:16] him: called a century plant
[13:50:28] him: once every few years it sends up a stalk
[13:50:33] him: that grows like 6 inches in a day
[13:50:39] him: I used to see them in florida
[13:50:39] me: like a plant hard on
[13:50:53] him: ya, within a few weeks
[13:50:58] him: it would send up a 12 foot stalk
[13:51:03] him: that would bloom and fall over
[13:51:13] me: right..like a plant hard on
[13:51:17] him: hehe
[13:51:22] him: you’re such a retard
[13:51:31] me: i always bloom before i fall over
[13:51:45] him: come to think of it, it was purple as well
[13:51:54] me: gross
[13:51:58] him: haha

  1. I, too, love looking at the wild mushrooms that sprout up in the park near our house. They’re the flat brown kind though, not nearly as dramatic looking.
