Good topical blogs

Blogs that suck because they just steal verbatim from lesser known bloggers and produce little to nothing of their own. These should all be henceforth known as “adgregators” because their raison d’etre is to skim and aggregate from everyone else in order to rake in advertising money via banner ads:

  • BoingBoing: BoingBoing does little more than lift content from other blogs. Borrowing links from others is the nature of the Internet, yet most bloggers actually produce original content as well. You can view many entries on a whole range of  websites and they will often appear near-verbatim on BoingBoing within minutes. Also, their website makes my eyes bleed.
  • Most of Gawker Media’s projects suck with the possible exception of Gizmodo. Fleshbot, their adult website, is too gay pr0n, and Defamer is high on its own bratty coolness. Lifehacker is occasionally worthwhile despite the fact that they stole their name and concept from Danny O’Brien, who coined the term “life hacks”.

  1. I like Boing2, because I don’t have the time or inclination to search for all of that cool stuff myself (though I could do without all of their copyfight and DRM stuff). I like a lot of their links, despite their crummy ads.

  2. Well, that’s a good point… I GUESS. :)
