Forgot about Bre

-en.

I think I forgot to mention that one of my very favorite people turned the big three-oh last month. That means I’ve known him for about seven years? Seems like a lot longer. Too long. He and Sarah are doing real well out in San Francisco where he’s probably wearing a path in the yard from walking around smoking enjoying the chilly bay area weather.

This is how I feel about work

Work is challenging as all get out. If I had to draw a picture of it for you, it would be a picture of my head with a bunch of stuff being crammed into it like a giant slurpy.

New life

Josalyn became an aunt this week with the births this weekend of her new niece and nephew. We’ll be heading up to get a first look, so maybe I’ll have some photographs or something. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen some new babies.

As I mentioned earlier, I’m working with a small company over off East 5th Street. I started on Thursday with Phillip showing me the ropes. I got to dig right in by making significant additions to a couple client sites. It will be challenging in a good way, especially this week since I won’t be able to bug Phillip for information on where everything is located.

That’s what I get for not checking my email for 5 hours

Missed a chance to talk with CNN:

Hi Chris

I’m a producer with CNN, interested in your blog post on Deep Throat. Can I ask where you are located, and for any other info on you and your blog? Lots of bloggers making your point about the money motive today and I was interested in using your site for a segment

Thanks
Abbi Tatton

Starting something new

So, I got that job I interviewed for on Tuesday, and I’m starting this morning in about 15 minutes. I think I’m getting what I asked for as well since the owner didn’t counter-offer over the phone, but we’ll see. I’m excited, tired, and a little nervous, but that is to be expected. Right now I’m writing this from Progress Coffee, which is nearby. I feel very hot either from nervousness or because it’s the beginning of summer. I can’t tell which.

Pedernales Falls photos

Yesterday, Jody came up with the great idea of going out to Pedernales Falls State Park in nearby Johnson City, TX. We had a lot of fun hiking around the falls and swimming in the Pedernales River. Here are a few photos.

Eventful day

So, I know I’m supposed to be focusing on running my own business now, but I had an opportunity to interview with an internet marketing firm where a friend of mine works that I couldn’t pass up. I’d essentially be doing the same thing I do now, which is work with clients and build websites. The interview went well, I think, but I never know for sure with anything like this. I wasn’t prepared to give numbers when they asked “how much” so I went home and thought about it until I came up with a ballpark figure then I called back. I may be asking too much, so I hope that doesn’t sit badly with the owner. Hopefully that will not be the deciding factor.

I’ve done what I can. It’s out of my hands now. If something comes of it, great. If not, nothing changes.

Up too early for no reason

Dorky admission: I’m a member of Toastmasters International. It’s basically a club to improve your public speaking skills.

We meet every Monday at 6:45am at IHOP for about an hour and a half where everyone has to speak in front of the group in some fashion during each meeting, either as a prepared speaker, an evaluator, or extemporaneously. Since I was out of town I didn’t make it in for the last week’s meeting. That’s what caused this whole thing.

Thunder only happens when it’s raining…

This evening the Texas skies treated us to an early summer thunderstorm that shook the windows and shut off the electricity. It’s an amazing thing to behold. Big clouds and masses of steamy air butting up against each other to produce jagged bolts of lightning that shoot down to the ground. I love that split second when you see the blinding lightning bolt and know the thunderclap is close behind and then “Boooom!” Nothing compares to the feeling of thunder shaking the world around you. When you are in the middle of a thunderstorm you understand the awe and terror of early people who worshipped the sky.

Get together

After an otherwise uneventful day, it was nice to see some of my now ex-coworkers up at Dave and Buster’s last night. In the week I’ve been gone a lot of things have already changed with people being promoted and moved around to different teams and departments. It’s weird how fast everything around you changes.
